Shrek Diaries Day 1

Good morning all!

This is Brandi here, excited to share some of the exciting things that are going on in our next production, Shrek the Musical!

For those who do not know about the musical, it is an action packed, well written musical rendition of the movie we have all come to love. There are dancing knights, a singing dragon, misunderstood fairytale creatures,  tap-dancing rats, a tiny Lord Farquaad, and somewhere in all this fun, the struggle for two people–or should I say ogres–to find happiness in themselves and true love.

What I’m trying to get at here is that there are a lot of things going on in this production and boy has everyone been busy. So busy, in fact, that 11 days before the show, things are pulling together in a way that would make any theatre director sigh in relief like, “Aaaaah.” Thus, I wanted to share some of the amazing projects and work not only the directors and producers are coming up with, but what the cast and crew are doing as well!

Everyday the next 11 days before the show begins, I will post a little project, or in some cases a BIG project, that is being made to make this show truly magnificent. This series will be called Shrek Diaries, or #Shrekdiaries. Look forward to a new post every day to get a glimpse of what you will see on stage June 11-14!

Day 1 of Shrek Diaries: The Dulocian Wigs

Dulocian (Doo·lock·ee·in): A citizen of Duloc.

At the get go, when deciding to produce Shrek the Musical a project that we could start without even casting a single person was the Dulocian wigs. Director Sarah and Spotlight employee, Katie P. has been working diligently to produce a bunch of doll-like wigs to suit their doll-like citizens.

Colorful and cute they have done a wonderful job! It is hard to believe these wigs were once just beanies and strings of yarn! Below is one of our Dolocians, Caraline, modeling her hairdo!

It’s hard not to like them. Even Julie, a board member of the Spotlight Performing Arts thinks they’re fun and cute.

To see these wigs in action mark a date on your calendar for either June 11-13 at 8:00 pm or June 14th at 2:00pm. You can even see them up close that week at our Swamp Dance Party after the performance that Friday or our Shrek Camp the morning of the Saturday performance.  For more information check out the links below or like us on Facebook! Then stay tuned for more of the #Shrekdiaries in the upcoming days!

  1. I have become a avid fan of Spotlight since my granddaughters, Aden, Celia and Lydia have been participating. I just am so very appreciative of all the fantastic opportunities young children in the area are given through your efforts! It’s hard to explain how much each of these productions has meant to my family and I am sure the other children have gained as much. Please keep this wonderful program going! Bravo!

    1. Brandy is no longer a director at Spotlight, but I am certain she found the idea on Pinterest. Chad Hembree – Director.
